Are there any other ways to learn Selenium besides manually testing it
Selenium is not the most well known of web development tools but for those who don’t know what it is it can be notoriously difficult to learn to use. Despite the amount that a lot of people suggest that they pick things up extremely fast Selenium is very different from any other plugin or piece of software that you will find out there. Because it is so specialised and not like anything else you could find it means that the usual learning curve for most programs is significantly increased and without proper guidance it can take several weeks to become efficient enough to use Selenium properly. This is not ideal for most web developers as they may be working on several projects at the time they decide to try and pick up Selenium, but if you are a web designer who finds that you spend far too much time making amendments for clients or going through previous projects to fix bugs and coding errors then it is going to be very useful for you.
The first thing that pops into most peoples heads when trying to learn to use a new piece of software (especially Selenium) is to look for online guides or try to manually learn it themselves. For a lot of things trying to work them out yourself is what you are supposed to do, and in some case is the whole fun of it (e.g. video games in which you progress by learning more about the game). However, for the mostpart these programs are much simpler and some of them such as video games will obviously be used and learnt in your spare time rather than when you have better things to do. Selenium is different as for the mostpart those trying to learn to use it will also be trying to do their actual web design work at the same time. This is far less efficient as the time that it takes for you to learn it could be much more than the time that you actually do web design, which could drastically decrease a web developer’s income.
What you really need is a way in which you can learn to use Selenium very quickly and in a large block of time so that you can take a break from web development and come back to it a couple of days later fully able to use Selenium and to naturally be able to make up the time lost.
The best way in which you can do this is through an online or classroom-based training course. As with any training course they are focused and have a set curriculum so that you can learn efficiently and quickly whilst not wasting any time. These courses can be found through a few providers such as www.edgewordstraining.co.uk who will allow you to take a couple of days out and more than make up for the time and cost through being back to highly efficient Selenium use and web development straight after.
